My name is Jessica from the Bronx. I will be 18 on April 22, 2009. I live with my mom in an apartment on East 163 St. Mom and dad divorced when I was 5. We do ok and mom works really hard to put food on the table and she’s putting some money aside so I can go to college. I will have to start working Saturdays to help with the house bills.

I love country and rap and me and my friends, Trina, Terry, Trish, and Ash, recently formed The Rap Pack. We have a lot of fun writing and performing our own raps to whoever listens. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and we have a great laugh together. I also love drama and I belong to the school drama group. I can play the drums quite well and I would like to learn to play the saxophone and the piano. I love playing netball and hockey but that’s all. When I’m at home I love to knit and sew and mom is teaching me how to crochet. I don’t like computer games and I rarely watch TV unless I go to a friend’s house.

Me and mom are very religious and we go to a Baptist church every Sunday. They have praise and worship for all ages and there are a lot of kids my own age to hang out with. They also have a youth club on Tuesday nights that me and friends go to. The only thing I don’t like about it is that they let kids in that aren’t interested in the church and they cause trouble sometimes and spoil things for the rest of us.

My dream is to get into the New York Film Academy and become an actress or director.

I have met Becky three times because she comes to NY quite a lot. The first time I met Becky was when mom took me to Times Square on my birthday and we saw her with her mom and her friend Rachel. They were dressed so fine and Becky looked like a princess to me and I was just staring at her. She saw me staring at her but she didn’t say anything. Well I didn’t think I’d ever see her again but about 2 hours later I saw her again. This time it was just her and Rachel. She stared at me for a while and then she said, “I saw you earlier didn’t I?” So I said, “Yes” and we started talking. Then we all went for a coffee. So that’s how we became friends. She is sooooo nice and sooooo kind, and she treats me like I am really special. I tell her all my dreams and ambitions and she is always so supportive, and she fills me with confidence and determination. She is very spiritual and we study and pray together whenever we meet up. She writes to me every week with a teaching from the Bible. She is very special to me. I haven’t met any of her friends but two of them write to me and they are very special too.
