COME BACK TO US

Here I am in my prison
Staring out at the world through the bars
I feel safe and secure, though
No cares, no worries, no responsibilities
Familiar faces come to stare
They talk about the love of God
Sometimes I'll say, "Praise the Lord!"
Oh how their faces light up!
Something bad once happened
And so here I am in this prison
There's no hope of escape
So I just sit here staring
I look through the window into the next room
I see someone sitting and staring
A face full of sorrow and despair
I feel so sorry for them
To an unspoken question comes a reply
"I'm trapped in this prison"
But I could only see a room, not a cell!
And I couldn't see any bars!
I sensed someone watching me
I turned to see who it was
It was one of those familiar faces
"Are you talking to yourself in the mirror again?!"
We would that the walls crumble like clay
We would that the bars melt away
We’ve many good things to discuss
Come back to us, come back to us
After a bad incident, some people withdraw into their own world and it is like being in a prison cell. It makes them feel safe and secure.
The person in this poem looks through what they think is a window but the last line of verse six reveals that they have been looking in the mirror! It is this realization that sets us free.
If you have withdrawn from the world, then you need to realize that you are wasting away you life. The only prison cell you are in is the one you made but you can break free.
Come back to us.
