Don't Tell Me Life's Not Fair

A Prayer For The Children

This is a song for rebellious girls who like to stay out late, fool around with boys, and take drugs.

Your parents make rules like, “Make sure you’re home by 9pm,” “Don’t mess around with boys (kissing and petting),” and, “Don’t be tempted to try any drugs.” You think they want to spoil your fun and that they don’t care about you and you say, in a very moaning sort of way, “This is just so not fair.” Well I hope this song will change your mind and that you will realize that your parents love and care about you. I care about you, too, and that is why I wrote this song.

The tune for this song is Streets Of London by Ralph McTell You can learn that tune HERE!

DON'T TELL ME LIFE'S NOT FAIR

by

Becky Rene

You don’t think your mama’s fair

When she tells you to be home by nine

You’re sure you can stay out late

And everything’s gonna be alright

Well I’m a young girl just like you

And I stayed out late with my friend Sue

They found us at the roadside

All beaten black and blue

So don’t try and tell me that life’s not fair

And that your mom and dad they don’t really care

‘Cause everyday they pray for you

And the rules they make say “I love you”

  I’m hoping that you’ll listen

‘Cause it may just save your life

You don’t listen to your dad

When he tells you not to fool around

You say you’re having fun

“And besides I’m on the pill”

Well I’m a young girl just like you

And I’ve been abused more than you’ll know

So now I’m damaged goods

And I will be all my life

So don’t try and tell me that life’s not fair

And that your mom and dad they don’t really care

‘Cause everyday they pray for you

And the rules they make say “I love you”

  I’m hoping that you’ll listen

‘Cause it may just save your life

I heard about this young girl

Who was looking for a thrill

She went to all these parties

And she’d always pop a pill

She thought that she could handle it

She said she was in control

But drugs became her master

And now she’s lying in the morgue

So don’t try and tell me that life’s not fair

And that your mom and dad they don’t really care

‘Cause everyday they pray for you

And the rules they make say “I love you”

  I’m hoping that you’ll listen

‘Cause it may just save your life

So how can you tell me I don’t love you

When I wrote this song just for girls like you

Your mom and dad they do love you

Just think of all they’ve done for you

I hope that you will hear me

And maybe change your mind
